Lots of Learning!

We have been doing lots of learning in our room this term...during Maths time we have been focussing on Multiplication. Look at the photos below to see how we have been using egg cartons to understand the concept of equal groupings. We have also been using plasticine to help understand the phonics digraphs we have been learning about. We really enjoy this because we get to move around to learn. Enjoy the photos!

Our Excursion to an Olden Day Home

The Year 2 classes went on an excursion to an olden day home, which is an important part of Western Australia's history. We got to play many traditional games and learn about what life was like many years ago. Check out our slideshow!

Our Book Week Celebrations

We got the chance to dress up as our favourite book characters to celebrate our love of books and reading. We enjoyed parading our different costumes in front of the school and watching the teachers perform a book play, what a fun morning!

Monster Exchange - The World is our classroom!

We are very excited about a new project we are starting call 'Monster Exchange'. We are joining up with a Grade 2 class in Viginia, USA, to use descriptive language skills.
The students in each classroom are split into groups, each of which designs an original picture of a monster. The students must then write a description of the monster. The partnered classes then exchange their descriptions via e-mail and the Internet.
The students are then challenged to use reading comprehension skills to read the descriptions and translate them into a monster picture. The true challenge involves creating a redrawn picture as close to the original picture as possible without looking at the original and using only the written description of the monster. What a challenge! We will keep you posted :)

Under the Sea

Under the sea
Under the sea
Darling it's better
Down where it's wetter
Take it from me
Up on the shore they work all day
Out in the sun they slave away
While we devotin'
Full time to floatin'
Under the sea

What a perfect theme for a school assembly and we enjoyed every minute of it! We had octopuses, whales, sharks, little fishes and of course our sea captains, what an adventure! Look at our photo slideshow below, we were shining stars :)
